CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS

RESPECT EVERYONE! This rule is the most important rule. When students understand this rule, they will have no problem following the other rules. We want them to Treat others they way they want to be treated.

  1. Follow directions quickly
  2. Raise your hand for permission to speak
  3. Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat
  4. Make smart choices
  5. Keep your Dear Teacher Happy!!!

DISCIPLINE PLAN AND PROCEDURE

Our classroom uses the GO FOR GOOD BEHAVIOR plan. This is a stoplight-with-cars discipline system. The student begins each day with his/her car on the GREEN light. The goal is to keep the car on GREEN every day. At the end of the day, students will receive their Behavior Calendar/Chart and color the light where their car is located.

If these expectations are not followed, the following consequences will take place:

FIRST Time verbal reminder/warning
SECOND Time car moved to YELLOW, discuss behavior, and what he/she needs to do to get car moved back to GREEN
THIRD Time car remains on YELLOW and student loses 5 minutes of Free Choice Time
FOURTH Time car moved to RED, student loses 7-10 minutes of Free Choice Time, and parent contacted by phone/note/e-mail
FIFTH Time sent to principal

At the end of the week, students whose car remained on GREEN all week will receive the I STAYED GREEN ALL WEEK! award. At the end of the month, students whose car remained on GREEN or was only on YELLOW no more than four (4) times will get to participate in a special activity.

EXPECTATIONS, GUIDELINES, ROUTINES AND PROCEDURES

ATTENDANCE/ABSENCE
Regular attendance without tardiness is important to a successful school year. Your child’s progress, both academically and socially, will be enhanced by daily participation. The school day is from 8:10 - 3:20pm. On Friday, the school hours are 8:10 – 1:30pm. Kindergarteners will usually be dismissed five (5) minutes early to avoid the mass exit.

If your child will be absent for any reason, please call the office between 8:00 and 8:30am and inform them of the absence.

BOOK ORDERS – SCHOLASTIC
Book orders from Scholastic Book Club will usually be sent home each month. Please return the completed order form in an envelope along with a check made out to the book club by the deadline

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS
We welcome the celebrating of birthdays. Treats for the class should be sent or brought by you on your child’s birthday. We will celebrate his/her birthday a half hour before school is out.

CLOTHING
Children should wear comfortable clothing in accordance with the school’s dress code (See School Handbook) For girls who wear skirts/dresses to school, please place shorts underneath.

EXTRA CLOTHES
Young children sometimes may have an accident that will require a change of clothes. Please send an extra change of clothes to remain in your child’s backpack in case they are needed.

P. E. CLASS
Students need to wear tennis shoes for P. E. class.

FIELD TRIPS
We would like to participate in a field trip each quarter. However, we usually are able to engage in only two. You will be notified of trips one week prior to the trip, and a permission form will be sent two days before the trip. The permission slip needs to be signed and returned the next day.

HOMEWORK  ASSIGNMENTS
Students will periodically have an activity to complete at home that will reinforce a lesson introduced in class. Sometimes you will need to help your child complete an individual booklet. No matter what, the best homework activity is to READ, READ, READ with your child daily.

LUNCH – Microwave
Students in lower elementary (K –2) are not allowed to use the microwave. This is a safety and staffing issue. If you’d like for your child to have a warm meal, you may want to order from the hot lunch program. The Hot Lunch program always begins the day after the Labor Day break.

Lunch is $3.50. A lunch ticket may be purchased for 10 meals ($35.00). I strongly suggest that a lunch ticket be purchased if your child will be purchasing lunch regularly.

SCHOOLWORK/COMMUNICATION FOLDER
Each week (usually on Tuesdays) your child’s schoolwork/communication folder will be sent home. Every Tuesday check to see if your child has his/her folder. Please take the time to look at his/her work, let him/her tell what was done, and RETURN the folder the next day. This folder will also be used for most of the communication from me, and the school. The papers in the left pocket are to be LEFT at home, and papers in the right pocket send RIGHT back to school.

REST/ OUIET TIME
There will be a rest time for 30 minutes every day about 12:30pm. The students are not required to sleep, but must rest and relax quietly during this time. Rest time will be decreased as the year progresses and the learning increases.

SNACK TIME
Every morning we have snacks. You will be asked to contribute to our snack supply, usually at the end of each month. The snacks need to be nutritious items, no sugary sweet items. Here are suggested snacks items:  raisins, goldfish, applesauce, Cheez-its, peanut butter crackers, granola bars, honey nut cheerios, pretzels, or popcorn. Of course, your child can bring his/her own snack.
