Welcome to Kindergarten, and thank you for choosing Midland's Kindergarten program. Kindergarten is one of the most important years of your child's school career. It will be a time when attitudes towards school are formed, and a good foundation for learning is developed. I look forward to working with you as your child begins his/her educational journey.

Thank you for the opportunity to partner with you in the growth and development of your child!

100 Days of School!

The Kindergarten class had a great time on January 24 celebrating the 100th day of school. The students wore special 100-day glasses and hats, and enjoyed bouncing 100 helium balloons around the classroom. As part of their preparation, the kids wore Midland shirts that they had decorated with 100 items of their choosing. These ranged from cheerios to pom-poms, from purple paper to stickers and flowers.

As part of the festivities, each member of the class of 2024 brought snack items to share with their classmates. After opening a number of egg cartons, the kids divided up their treasures in sets of twelve, and then into plastic bags to take home. A grand time was had by all!

Learning Our Primary Colors

by Dawn Burke

Our students worked hard to learn how to identify and spell color words, and also learned their primary and secondary colors. Activities included using finger-paints—mixing primary colors to make secondary colors.  Another activity involved Ms. Wallace spelling a color word. The Kinders then had to figure out which color word she spelled, then find an object in the room that was that color. Here are some pictures from our colorful day (thanks, Mrs. Burke!)

Ridin' on the Bus

by Dawn Burke

During the first week of school, Ms. Wallace invites different staff members to come to the Kindergarten room, introduces them, and asks them to explain what they do at the school. Some of the people who visit the Kindergarteners include Mrs. Hoffman, Mrs. Reed, Mrs. Fairchild, and Mr. Brazeal. Mr. Brazeal’s talk with the kindergarteners ended in a special field trip--a bus-ride around the block! When asked what they liked best about their first schoolbus ride, here is what the Kinders had to say:

Favin: I liked lots of things--the ride, and when we sang songs, and getting on the bus.
Becca: I liked the part when we went fast over a bump.
Joelle: I liked going around the circle, ’cause I like running around in circles.
Bailey: Singing the songs because I really like singing.
Tyler: Watching Mr. Brazeal open the bus door.
Samantha: I liked riding on the bus because it was so fun, and I liked talking to Nick.
Nick: I liked riding by Samantha and singing, Jesus’ Love is A-Bubblin’ Over.
Charlie: I liked driving around and that’s all.
Phillip: That we sang The Wheels on the Bus Go Round and Round.
Alaina: Going around the block.
Ariel: I liked singing, Jesus Loves Me on the bus.
Hailey: I like to go up and down the hills on the bus.

We'll add pictures for this new year as we take them!
