Mustang Memo - August 17, 2018

The new school year is here and I couldn't be more excited. If we have not met, my name is Richard Young and I am the principal here at MAA. I graduated from Midland in 2002 and I never thought that I would be back here 16 years later. What a privilege God has given me! This year my goal is to get an email out to you every week. I hope you enjoy it. We thank you for your support and we ask that you keep us in your daily prayers as we enter this marvelous new school year. Thank you!

Richard Young

Home and School organized a prayer walk for us on Sabbath, August 11. It was a wonderful time to dedicate our school to the Lord.

The first day of school has finally arrived! Teachers and staff were glad to see the halls alive with young minds eager to learn and socialize. Our prayer walks before school set the stage for more prayer filled classrooms to start the year.

Over 250 people  came and supported the school at Home and School's back to school night.  We’re so thankful to be able to kick off the school year in fellowship with so many students, staff, family and friends. Thank you for you prayers and love for MAA. Be sure to mark your calendars for our Family Vespers and Outdoor Movie Night on October 6. More details to come!

On August 14th, Midland Adventist Academy opened its doors to begin another school year. For the past 38 years Midland Adventist Academy has been located to the East of Maurer Road in Shawnee, KS. For the past 38 years, music students at Midland have attended classes on the gymnasium stage. During this period lives were touched, and talents were cultivated to worship our Lord through music. While the situation was not ideal, God blessed.

Over the past 18 months God has put people and resources in Midland's journey that have allowed the pursuit of an exciting new development for the school. A $50,000 matching grant from Adventist Health Systems (AdventHealth) kicked off a fundraising drive to renovate an existing area of the school into a new music rehearsal suite. Through many community events, generous donors, and inspirational stories of God's provision, Midland not only met its fundraising goals, but surpassed them twice over.
The new music department was unveiled to the public during Back to School Night on Tuesday and received an overwhelmingly joyous constituent response. The new space features acoustically treated rehearsal areas, a large instrument storage and music library room, two nearly-soundproof practice rooms, and a creative lab decked out with the latest music recording and production equipment and software. It is our prayer that God continues to bless Midland's music department as we use the new tools he has given us to develop our students' musical gifts in honor and service of Jesus.
