Information on Inclement Weather
We had our first snow day at Midland this week. And with another bit of icy winter weather upon us, it sounds like a good time to remind you of our regular snow day policy. Midland does not have normal bus routes requiring students to be outside for extended periods of time, so we will not be closing this year due to cold weather. If a situation does arise where we will close, we will communicate the closing via email and/or RenWeb's Parent Alert. If the local school district where you live is closed, an excused absence will be given.
Welcome Back for Semester Two!
Midland would like to welcome you all back for the start of second semester. We hope you enjoyed the halftime show, and are ready to cheer on the #classof2018 as they take the field to pull out a victory in the final minutes of the school year. Keep your attention here, we'll keep you posted on all the details!

What’s Happening In 7th and 8th Grade
This year our 7th and 8th graders are contributing regular writeups for the website about what's going on in their classroom. Here's one for starters by Alex Mireles:
On Friday, December 15, we went to Skate City for our end of the quarter Christmas party. I am excited to go to Skate City during school. It was cool to not do work and just have fun. What I also like about it is that Midland takes a lot of field trips, and that’s fun. I mean we do have to do work, it’s just that after that we get to have fun.
Also, what happened this week was that we had our concert Tuesday. I was so nervous to be up on stage and sing in front of everyone. My legs were shaking while I singing. I don’t know why that happens to me when I get nervous. After the concert I was relieved to be done. Everyone did a good job. I messed up once or twice, but I was glad with what I pulled off.
Last week was fun too because of the eighth grade Christmas store. I was thankful for the money we got for our class trip. A lot of people contributed to the store. We had two raffles for a big bear and a football signed by many Chiefs players. I was pretty sad that I didn’t win, but I was glad who won the football because my friend, Izaak, got it. Many things happened in December, and it was great. I hope I have a great Christmas and everyone else too.

Trash Bag Sales
High quality trash bags are available now! These trash bags are such high quality, they sell themselves. Buyers become repeat customers! Please order from your favorite Midland student (or the Home & School at 913-909-3606). Checks can be made payable to Midland Adventist Academy, and money should be collected when your order is taken.
Bags are $11 a roll, and come in three different sizes:
- Blue 55 gallon (super size, 16 bags/roll)
- Yellow 39 gallon (25 bags/roll)
- White 15 gallon (tall kitchen, 65 bags/roll)
Please note that one case of bags (10 rolls) weighs approximately 50 lbs. Your order will need to be picked up at school, as the rolls of bags are too heavy to send home with your child. Let’s all get behind this effort! Buy your bag supply from us and offer them to relatives, friends, and neighbors. All profits go to the Midland Home & School, which works to make a positive difference for our students.
Music Department Challenge Grant
Weʼre excited to announce a new project that we plant to raise funds for and complete before the 2018-2019 school year. The music department is in need of itʻs own designated space for music education that will not compete with after-school sports activites. Our planned renovation will turn the existing library room into just that dream. The space will include practice rooms, a creative lab, and storage.
The cost is roughly $100K, and we have received a generous $50K matching grant from Adventist Health System. Weʼll soon begin raising the remaining funds. To find out how you can help support the fundraising drive or if you have a creative idea to lend, please contact Mr. Hutchison via email or by phone at 913-268-7400.
